Spokane’s local NBC affiliate, KHQ, raised over $11,000 Saturday for an anchor’s annual golf charity event. The fundraiser took place during the morning news broadcast, which aired from 7-10 a.m.

The fundraiser’s original goal was to reach at least $3,200, but in a span of three hours, citizens of the inland northwest stepped up to showed their love and thanks for those who have served. Donations ranged from $5, $10, $100, and even a single donation of $1000.

Toward the end of the broadcast, a local woman walked into the station with her 7-year old daughter, who brought $20 and a letter she had written for our vets, which she read on-air, bringing tears to all those who worked in the studio that day.

For seven years, Dan Kleckner has put on the Dan Kleckner Golf Classic, which sponsors local vets for a free day of golf, lunch, and dinner, all in order to say thank you for the sacrifices they and countless others have made for our country.  Each $100 raised sponsors a vet for a day comradery and fun.

The money raised that morning will go toward the “Kleckner Classic,” giving at least 180 local veterans the opportunity to tee off this August.
